Our Demands

Listening to some people talk, you could almost believe the LGBTQI+ community has already achieved everything by now. But on closer inspection, significant gaps in the law become apparent — to say nothing of the actual social acceptance of queer people. Even though homosexuality, at least, has become considerably less stigmatized over the last two decades — especially in urban centers — the situation for trans people remains different. We are far more visible in public, which also makes us more vulnerable.

Furthermore, most trans people additionally need access to legal gender change procedures and medical assistance in the form of hormone replacement therapy or gender-affirming surgeries. Access to these is still highly bureaucratic, and those affected are not infrequently confronted with gatekeeping in a healthcare system that is supposed to help them. Instead, their trans identity is openly questioned, and in the worst case they end up paying for a negative diagnosis themselves.

To make the existing systemic shortcomings more visible and to clearly show what we as a community still need to demand in order to obtain our rights, we have drawn up the following list of political demands:

  1. Implementation of a self-determination law based on the Argentine model.

  2. Comprehensive ban on all forms of conversion therapy (based on both sexual orientation and gender identity), including prosecution of offenses committed abroad.

  3. Expansion of medical, psychological, and therapeutic care (psychotherapy places, psychiatrists, gynecologists/endocrinologists, etc.).

  4. Facial and body hair removal for trans women to be covered by health insurance (at minimum the basic treatment) — with both doctors and certified studios available to provide this (doctors are not necessarily more competent in this area than beauty salons).

  5. Debureaucratization of access to puberty blockers for trans youth — no one should have to go through the wrong puberty against their will!

  6. Anti-discrimination protection not only in labor law but in all areas of life ("Levelling-Up") — for a ban on discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

  7. Mandatory continuing education for medical professionals on working with trans, non-binary, and intersex people.

  8. Training for staff in educational institutions on trans and intersex topics, as well as age-appropriate handling of the topics of gender and sexuality.

  9. Total ban on medically unnecessary gender-normalizing surgeries on intersex children (Intersex Genital Mutilation, IGM)!
